Spotlight on Mary Martinez, Executive Director, CALM*
We are pleased to have Mary Martinez in the key leadership role of Executive Director. Mary has been a valued member of Villa’s leadership team for a decade, first as the Business Office Manager of our sister community Villa Northwest in Annaville, before moving to Villa South in a similar but expanded role. In this enhanced role, she mentored the prior Director in life safety requirements and took a broader interest in the overall operations of Villa South.
When she assumed the Business role at Villa Northwest, Mary computerized the business office functions, organized the resident Trust Fund finances, and supervised regulatory compliance requirements. Most important, Mary fully embraced the Villa’s mission of caring for seniors. Villa staff and residents soon became part of her extended family. The owner of the Villas then asked Mary to move to Villa South near her home in The Lakes area to support a new Executive Director. Mary agreed, forming a new family at the Country Club community, and cementing her plan to eventually retire with this company.

When elevated to the Executive Director role, Mary had made observations on desired enhancements, particularly in the training of staff, the need for physical and programmatic enhancements, and to the overall physical space. Mary is kind, organized and effective and we are delighted that she has taken on this leadership role. Families love working with Mary and appreciate her warm approach to working with families on various questions about their loved ones.
Mary’s 30+ years of management experience in construction, accounting and management makes her a great asset to the Villa community. Under Mary’s leadership, Villa’s Stepping Stones section has been transformed. Working closely with Activity Director Robin Cohea and Wellness Director Stephanie Lozano, Stepping Stones program has more structure, staff training has been enhanced, and residents are more engaged. There is a daily Activity schedule consisting of 4 components: Cognitive, Physical, Physical, Art Therapy and Social. The Team also has a Theater Room schedule directed towards dementia residents on hospice and those that need quiet time.
Families have noticed a big difference in the engagement of their loved ones. One sister commented that her brother is much more engaged than he was in another facility and is seldom in his apartment, as he is always involved in an activity. He’s a different person.
For families navigating assisted living or memory care options, we encourage you to speak directly with Mary at 361.991.3252 to discuss senior solutions.
