Spotlight on Lisa Garza, Unit Manager for Villa’s Assisted Living community

Staff are the backbone of Villa’s organization and the key to providing top notch, compassionate care that gives families the peace of mind that their loved ones are safe, engaged and well-cared for. Villa South is blessed to have an amazing group of long-tenured employees as well as welcoming to newer staff who share the mission and values of Villa Assisted Living. Today’s spotlight is on Lisa Garza, Unit Manager for Villa’s Assisted Living community.

Lisa Garza, Unit Manager for Villa’s Assisted Living community

Lisa Garza has grown up at Villa South, working alongside her mother Delma Garza, currently Villa’s Dietary Manager who previously was Operations Manager and interim Executive Director. Starting at age 15, Lisa started her journey at Villa South, coming to work with mom and her sister Marissa. Now in her early 30s, Lisa has worked at Villa South for most of 18 years, with a 2 year stint working in healthcare in Midland Texas. Starting as a weekend receptionist, Lisa has learned how to be a medication aide and eventually became the Unit Manager in Assisted Living. Upon her return to Corpus Christi, Villa was thrilled to welcome Lisa back, first as a manager training new staff, then as Unit Manager in our Stepping Stones memory care community, and now in the leadership role in Assisted Living.

Lisa’s daily tasks include oversight of Assisted Living unit including training and education of care attendants and medication aides, coordination with activity staff, ordering resident medications, assessing new residents, and doing rounds with Wellness Director.

Lisa is known for her calm demeanor under all circumstances and for her knowledge of her residents’ specific care needs.

“Lisa is soft spoken but deals very well with the families. She is very intelligent and knows her job well.”

Executive Director Mary Martinez

Lisa contributes to the community in so many ways. She is a graphic artist that Activity Director Robin Cohea relies on to publicize Villa’s multitude of resident, family and community activities. She is a huge advocate for her residents and is well respected by her peers.

“Lisa is very attentive with her residents and at any given time you can ask her anything about any of her residents and she will have an answer for you.”

Villa staff member

“I am very proud of my daughter, especially for the compassion she has shown for her residents.”

Family member

Lisa grew up in Corpus Christi, TX, daughter of Delma and Joe with a brother who has a career in the Oil Field Industry and a sister Marissa, who is a care attendant in Villa South’s memory care unit. Quote from Lisa,

My mom brought us to work and instilled in us a good work ethic and an understanding of the key role we play in making life wonderful for seniors in their later years. I love putting a smile on our resident’s face especially when they are not feeling great and need a boost.”

Lisa has developed a range of competencies in her many years in senior living. She is quiet, yet observant, a key element of doing assessments of new residents in the skilled nursing facility, at the hospital, at their home or at Villa. Director Mary values her many attributes and we hope you will get the opportunity to talk with Lisa during your next visit to Villa! Feel free to reach out to Lisa at LisaG@VillaAssistedLiving.com or via 361-991-3252.
